No trees? You still have options.
Portable hammock stands
Steel stands work for backyards and patios. Collapsible stands pack into a car trunk for the beach. Check that your hammock length fits the stand.
Posts and structures
Purpose-built hammock posts sunk in concrete are great for backyards. Porch beams can work if they are structural and you use proper hardware. When in doubt, ask someone who knows framing.
At the beach
- Palms: some beaches allow straps around palm trunks, and many resort and public beaches do not. Always check.
- Never tie into lifeguard stands, piers, fences or signs.
- Stands win. A beach stand avoids the rules question entirely.
- Sand is hot and soft: hang a little higher than usual so the sag clears the ground.
Cars and boulders
Some hangers use roof racks or boulders with webbing. Both are advanced and easy to get wrong. If you are unsure about the load rating, skip it.
